Curious Cat Consulting

Curious Cat Consulting · Tampa, FL

We’re the tech people for Tampa businesses that don’t have one.

A small law office or a wealth advisory practice shouldn’t need an IT department to get its email working.

Tell us what’s bugging you. You don’t need the technical name for it.

What we get called about

Things people tell us on the first call.

Email security

“Our emails keep going to spam. Or someone’s sending fake invoices as us.”

It comes down to three DNS records (SPF, DKIM and DMARC) that were never set up, or were set up once and never checked. The same gap that sends your mail to spam lets anyone send mail that looks like it came from you.

We find every service that sends as your domain and fix the records, then tighten the policy slowly enough that your real mail keeps arriving. If you want, we keep an eye on the reports after that.

How the email work goes
  1. Websites and search visibility

    “Nobody finds us online.”

Sometimes it’s the site: slow on a phone, or vague about what you do.

We check what Google and ChatGPT see when they read your site, fix what’s broken, and rebuild only if patching costs more.

  2. Automation and AI tools

“Someone here spends every Friday copying numbers from one spreadsheet into another.”

If a person can write down the steps, a computer can do most of them. We’d rather put AI inside the boring parts of your week than on your homepage as a chatbot.

We build it in the tools you already pay for when we can, like Microsoft 365, Zapier, Make or Power Automate, and write something custom when we can’t. For one client, setting up a new customer went from hours of manual work to minutes.

  3. Custom web and mobile apps

“We need something the off-the-shelf software doesn’t do.”

If you’re bending your process around software built for someone else, sometimes that means building your own. Sometimes there’s already a tool that does it, and we’ll point you to it.

We design and build web and mobile apps around the way your office already does things. Three of our apps are live in the App Store, so we know the part that comes after the code, too: store listings, review, privacy forms and updates.

  4. Legacy system modernization

“The old system runs everything, and nobody wants to touch it.”

One person understands it, and every change feels like a gamble.

We map what it does before changing anything, then move it over in pieces so the business keeps running the whole time.

If you already have developers, I also do architecture reviews, release pipelines, and cloud and data work. More on the About page.

Free tools

The same checks I run on client domains, free.

  • Email Auth Scanner

Paste your domain. You’ll know in ten seconds whether someone could send email as you.

    Check a domain
  • Site Audit

See your homepage the way search engines and AI crawlers do, and how fast it loads on a phone.

    Audit a site
  • EML Inspector

Drop in a suspicious email and see who actually sent it. It runs in your browser, so the message isn’t uploaded.

How it goes

What working with us looks like.

  1. A 30-minute call

You tell us what’s going wrong and we ask a lot of questions.

  2. What we found

What’s causing it and what it would take to fix. Sometimes the answer is a setting nobody changed in a tool you already pay for. The findings are yours either way.

  3. A written scope and a price

Before we start, you get a short written scope and a price. Bigger jobs get split into phases, and you see each one working before the next begins. If the scope changes, we tell you and wait for a yes before doing the extra work.

More about us

Questions

Questions we hear a lot.

We’re a small business and nobody here is technical. Is that a problem?

No. That’s who we work with.

What does it cost?

Most projects get a fixed price once we understand the problem, after a short call. Smaller or fuzzier work can be hourly. The email security work has set prices, listed on its page.

Can we just pay for a few hours of advice?

Yes. Book a couple of hours and we’ll look at whatever you’ve got.

Do you work with businesses outside Tampa?

Yes. Most of the work is remote, but if you’re around Tampa Bay we’ll come to your office. We’ve done demos and kickoffs that way.

Do you use AI?

Yes. We build it into client projects when it fixes a real problem, and I use it to write code.
